What it shows
VWAP (volume-weighted average price) is the average price weighted by traded volume since a starting point. Where price trades relative to that average is a common way to judge whether buyers or sellers have been in control over a period.
Multi VWAP draws several of these averages at once, so you do not have to switch between separate tools:
- Period VWAPs for the current day, week, month and year.
- Anchored VWAPs that start at the yearly high and at the yearly low. Price often reacts around averages anchored to such extremes, which makes them useful reference levels.
- Optional ATR levels for the daily, 4-hour and hourly timeframes, to put the distance to a level in the context of recent volatility.
- Optional previous-day volume × price as a rough measure of how much traded value stood behind the last session. This is mainly useful for thinly traded crypto or small-cap instruments.
How traders use it
- Check whether price is above or below the higher-timeframe VWAPs before choosing a direction.
- Treat a cluster of VWAPs close together as a single zone and not as several separate levels.
- Use the ATR levels to size stops and targets relative to normal movement, not to a fixed number of points.
Limitations
- VWAP depends on volume data. Instruments with unreliable or synthetic volume, such as some CFDs and spot FX feeds, give less meaningful averages.
- Levels are context, not signals. The indicator does not generate buy or sell entries and has no performance history behind it.
- The script is published as protected on TradingView. You can add it to your charts for free, but the source code is not public.
